![]() ![]() Auriok’s second ability is also very synergistic with your natural plan, as it can gain life to trigger Heliod, Sun-Crowned or Archangel of Thune to buff your creatures or combo faster and through removal.Ĭonclave Mentor’s first ability is quite strong in this deck. Firstly, Auriok Champion is naturally very good against the red decks of the format, clogging up the board on the ground and gaining a lot of life over the course of the game. It’s another good, flexible option for sideboards, but I don’t think it’s much more than that.Auriok Champion and Conclave Mentor are your two drops. This card will see play, but it’s not demonstrably different from the kinds of cards decks have been answering for years. My main point here is to throw a wet blanket on the doomsayers and over-reactionaries who think this gives Jund the keys to the castle of tier-0 Modern supremacy, or that Tron and Storm are now dead, cremated, buried, and shat-upon. Spell Snare just counters this, obviously. It doesn’t do nothing, but you’d have to be replacing some serious maindeck chaff to justify bringing this in just for Snaps or Cascade Lady. I’m pretty sure if you’re boarding in Damping Sphere just for those cards, I’m going to thank you for time-walking yourself on turn 2. Many think this is an answer to Snapcaster Mage and Bloodbraid Elf.Damping Sphere certainly prevents the critical-mass from occurring, but doesn’t do anything else. Rest in Peace is more difficult to get rid of (being an enchantment) and can sometimes end up exiling graveyard cards Storm was counting on to go off. Not only does she prevent Storm’s combo turn, but she even makes it extremely hard to cast cantrips at all and find answers. For instance, a Thalia, Guardian o f Thraben can often just brick Storm if they’re short on lands. This card isn’t necessarily better than many of the other common (and similar) Storm answers. If you’re able to, you’re playing Blood Moon instead. ![]() Blood Moon shuts off man-lands, fetch-lands, often-times entire colors.
